Trendspotter: Black is the New Black

We’re taking a break this week from Wednesdays with Wendy to talk about a new trend in the interior design world. We’re seeing it everywhere- black walls, black doors, black trim, black cabinetry…

Black is Back!

This dark and mysterious color can instantaneously turn up the chic factor. W Design’s clients don’t necessarily take this big of a risk when it comes to black. It can feel too dark and moody if there is not enough appropriate light in a space. It can also tend to look masculine. We get it! Black can be scary, harsh, and intimating. However, if you do it just right, black can make a total statement. A little black dress never did anyone wrong, did it??

Black can achieve a variety of styles. It can make a space feel royal, moody, contemporary, posh or chic depending on how the rest of the room is styled. If stark black is too scary, go for a deep charcoal or espresso. Paired with emerald green accents and brass hardware, this color brings a bold and regal effect. Try painting just your doors or trim. An intense color like black on the outlines of your room will make your wall color and wood grain pop! If painted trim is not your thing,  choose a dark floor contrasted with a light cabinet. This will make for a more classic, elegant look. For some ideas on how to style your home with the color black, check out some of these designers who absolutely nail this trend!
