Behind the Design: Dunes Lobbies III & V

Happy Monday everyone! Today, we are revealing our recent lobby project in Naples, Florida. We have been getting our hands in more commercial work lately and enjoying every minute of it! The Dunes was looking for an updated lobby design that would make visitors go “WOW!” when entering. They wanted a functional space for guests and owners to relax and hang out in. With some new paint, fixtures, rugs, furniture and stain color, W Design transformed the Dunes lobbies into a coastal escape!

Lobby V

BEFORE

AFTER

The first step in this project was selecting a dark stain for the wood paneling details. The previous stain color gave off an orange-ish tone after years of sun exposure. This darker stain would ensure no sun damage over time. The marble floors remained the same throughout the space. We selected a large area rug to anchor the space and bring warmth to the main lobby. We wanted a feature that would be truly eye-catching when visitors walked in. We chose a 3-D tile feature wall with two adjacent shadow boxes featuring floating coral. The large freeform wood sculpture was the perfect organic element to balance the white space. A pop of color was added using Benjamin Moore’s Smokestack Gray 2131-40.

The elevator areas were not fully functioning prior to remodel. We wanted to create conversational spaces where guests could gather and wait for others to get off the elevator. We broke up the long corridor hallways with a mirror detail incorporating the blue grey tone from the lobby. We also used a natural wallcovering to break up the monotony of the long hallway and add texture. The black and white photography we chose was from a local Florida photographer. The space feels authentic and sophisticated without being overly formal.

LOBBY III

Lobby III was nothing short of a beautiful transformation! We added full height wall paneling using applied molding to create a transitional look. We replaced the floors with a wood floor tile and replaced all of the light fixtures. Mirrors play up on the natural light making this lobby feel twice as big as ceilings twice as high. Touches of navy and cerulean blue finish off this breezy and effortless look!
